Sessions Preparation

IN PERSON

Arrive at your session allowing yourself time to settle in and have a relaxed transition into the space.  Life sometimes throws us an unexpected curve ball.  If this happens it’s ok.

Quietly come into the space, and prepare yourself with what you need physically and well as mentally.  If you are attending a movement or dance based session allow yourself time to warm up your body including your muscles and joints before.

Tips for your online set up

Smart TV’s can provide the best to option however, laptops, tablets, computer monitors work just as effectively. Make sure your software is up to date.

It is recommended your have a steady, strong internet connection.  Yes, you can use your phone however, we suggest a computer, laptop or tablet where possible.

Ensure you have a camera on your device when you are participating in a session that required your facilitator to see you clearly and provide feedback. Where your session involved dance and movement check that your whole body, including your feet can be clearly seen so your facilitator can provide feedback and direction to support your learning and safe dance/movement.

Setting up Your Space

Take some time after you have completed the enrolment process to give some thought to and
set up the space you are going to use for your online session.   This is your space, a dedicated space just for you and the journey you are undertaking.

The space doesn’t need to be elaborate or expansive.

The space needs to be big enough for you to undertake the activities without being restricted.  Consider the capacity of your space to allow you to lift your arms up and to the side, travel forward and backwards, side to side, lay down, stand up or be seated in a chair. Have any necessary equipment set up that can be easily accessed and used without strain.

Consider if it is movement based that you have the necessary room to move safely.   This means ensuring your space is clear and clean, with no obstacle that could be a fall or trip hazard. Consider any loose, hanging or fraying objects that could pose a hazard or cause injury.  Consider the implications of a change in floor level.

Think about the floor space you are using.   Where possible you’re a level surface.  If it is a slippery surface you may want to consider soft soled dance shoes or consider an alternative space.  If the surface is a carpeted or a rug, consider the friction capacity.

Ensure you have adequate lighting too that supports whatever you are participating in.  Secure any electrical cords as needed.

Where you are regularly using props or equipment for your session set up a designated place to store and access them during your session.

This is a community, even when participating online.  Feel free to engage in positive, respectful discussion both on screen during your session via Zoom, in person,  and via your private Facebook group outside of session.

Remember this is your space, so consider what personal touch support your, create an inviting space, that helps to maintain sense of privacy and personal space as appropriate to you and the environment where you are joining online.

You may want to add some colour, a plant, aroma, an inspiring image, or pop a reminder in the space that keeps you connected with your intention, motivation, or aspect of your wellbeing.

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING

Welcome and looking forward to sharing lots of goodness with you in support of your wellbeing journey.

Wear something that you can move, stretch and feel comfortable moving in. Consider clothing options that support your teacher or facilitator to be able to see how your body moves and support feedback about safe movement and dance.     Stretchy dance pants, yoga, exercise pants, legging or similar.  Stretchy T Shirts, wrap top, exercise top or similar.   You don’t need to buy something specific.
